Most Americans are one bad situation away from needing community assistance. A bad accident, serious illness, or untimely layoff can result in strained finances that leave you short on money for housing, bills, or food.
If yours become one of the 13.5% of Midwest households facing food insecurity, you can get warm, nutritious meals right here in the Corridor. View this PDF to see a list of food assistance resources.
Some organizations, such as Heritage Area Agency on Aging and Horizons – A Family Service Alliance (Meals on Wheels), provide meal deliveries for older adults or people with disabilities.
Several of the organizations that provide meal services and food assistance are churches. You do not have to be a member of the church to receive food assistance. Some organizations, such as the VA Community Resource and Referral Center, serve only veterans with appropriate identification.
There is no shame in seeking or accepting help. The current socioeconomic situation is becoming increasingly difficult for families throughout the country – we are all in this together.
